If a woman should go into labor before thirty-seven weeks of gestation, the baby born at that time is considered to be premature. In many cases premature infants tend to have some form of heart impairment arising from heart disease or defect. The incidence of heart malfunction in premature babies is rather alarming.

Premature infants do not have fully formed organs, and because of this the baby has to be cared for in a neonatal nursery or neonatal intensive care unit until such time as they have developed and strengthened enough to continue living without medical support. However premature infants suffer from many other symptoms, not only heart disease. Some common symptoms are hyaline membrane disease, poor ability to feed, inactivity, enlarged clitoris in females, small scrotum in males, weak cry, body hair, breathing apnea as well as many others.

Treatment

Heart disease in premature infants is not completely avoidable although there are treatment protocols that may be followed to treat this. These premature infants are unable before 34 weeks gestation, to suck and swallow at the same time, so many are fed by a tube inserted into the stomach or in very small infants into a vein.

Complications

Complications in premature infants may not necessarily be related to the premature birth but there are many serious complications that can occur as well as heart disease. Some of these are hyaline membrane disease, retinopathy, low blood glucose, bleeding in the brain, jaundice, anemia, growth retardation as well as mental-motor and developmental retardation.

Prevention

There is absolutely no way for a woman to prevent premature labor and the delivery of a premature infant. But there are ways to ensure you are taking the correct steps to minimize the chances of this happening. One of the most important is to receive good prenatal care early and continue throughout the pregnancy. Statistics do indicate that early, proper and continued prenatal care make a huge impact on reducing the odds of giving premature birth and its related risks and deaths.

During pregnancy it is also extremely important to take care of your own health as well. It is vital to eat nutrient rich foods, including fruits and vegetables, daily exercise and drink adequate amounts of water. Although the combination of premature infants and heart disease is a serious situation, with modern medical technology and better methods to lessen the chances of occurrence, the chances of pulling out of this medical quandary are getting better with each day.

Heart Disease In Children

It is amazing that few people are aware that a child can suffer from heart disease. Many people think that heart disease only affects the aged. Heart disease is a very serious problem and child heart disease is in fact a relatively common ailment worldwide. Child heart disease or congenital heart defects are recognized as one of the most widely known birth defects of all. There are statistics to prove that worldwide nearly one percent of all babies born are affected by some form of heart malfunction. These infants are usually diagnosed as having child heart disease upon examination by their pediatrician at birth. Sometimes this is usually referred to as a heart murmur.

Information About Child Heart Malfunction

A child’s heart might have a slight abnormality that may not even be noticeable at birth and therefore it might be difficult to detect any heart malfunction. But normally if a child has a heart defect there is a small hole in the wall of the heart that allows oxygenated and deoxygenated blood to move from one side of the heart to the other. This causes the infant to have either blue fingers or lips.

A problem that might also be experienced is an abnormal heart valve. The consequences are that the blood flows through the heart in the wrong direction. This type of child heart malfunction usually calls for surgery but this is normally performed when the child is older.

What A Heart Murmur Is

A heart murmur is the sound made by the blood flowing through the heart. This sound has been described as akin to the sound of water flowing through a hose. Heart murmurs occur frequently in infants, many are harmless, but others may create serious health risks for the child.

A heart murmur is a common sign of the evidence of child heart malfunction. In many instances the heart murmur is referred to as being ‘innocent’ or ‘functional’. Naturally parents do become extremely worried when the term is used to describe their child’s ailment. But a heart murmur does not necessarily mean that there is anything seriously amiss with the infant.

With the significant advances in medical technology in the last decade, parents can be assured that there will be a suitable course of treatment to alleviate their child’s heart disease.

Heart disease has become the number one cause of premature death in the United States and many other parts of the world. Heart disease is also a debilitating malady that disables many people. Heart disease treatment methods are thus vital for improving the quality of life of people suffering from these illnesses. The most common form of heart disease is the narrowing or blockages in the coronary arteries – blood vessels that supply the heart itself with blood. Fortunately various forms of heart disease treatment are available for many heart diseases.

Heart Disease Treatment Options

Some heart disease treatments take the form of prevention rather than cure. There are simple lifestyle adjustments like the cessation of smoking. Smoking cigarettes is a major contributing risk factor for heart disease and heart disease treatment options would have to include stopping this habit. It is very important to bear in mind that after a mere three years after smoking is stopped, any risk of heart disease lowers to that of a non-smoker.

It will also be of vital importance for heart disease treatment to lower blood cholesterol levels. By lowering these levels, the build up of plaque in the coronary arteries is reduced. Cholesterol levels should be kept below 200mg/dL and below 130mg/dL for LDL cholesterol.

Also to be taken into consideration are the problems you might experience with any heart disease treatment should you also suffer from ether high blood pressure or diabetes. These conditions need to be under control as both are recognized contributory factors causing heart disease.

It is possible that you might have to resort to more serious heart disease treatment methods if your heart disease status is of a more serious nature. This route usually means that medication will have to be commenced with immediate effect; perhaps even before a proper diagnosis of your particular type of heart disease is made.

Medical treatment such as pain medication, nitroglycerine taken under the tongue, aspirin and oxygen, where the oxygen is administered via a nose tube or face mask. Aspirin may also be prescribed as it thins the blood and helps prevent clotting. Other drugs may also be given to prevent clotting. The sooner heart disease treatment is given the better, as this may preclude the chance of the arteries becoming blocked.

When Heart Disease Requires Surgery

Although heart disease surgery is an option for the treatment of heart disease, it is a very risky procedure. To endure the discomfort of surgery and the relatively long recuperation period are unpleasant consequences of heart disease surgery. Heart disease can affect anyone at any stage of life.

Surgery can be performed at any age for people suffering from heart disease. Heart disease surgery is only resorted to if other methods have failed. People who do not respond to medication or have a rapid decline in their heart condition become candidates for heart disease surgery. There are some instances when surgery is the only method available to repair the heart disease and offers the patient the possibility of good health subsequently. Repeat surgery is needed in some cases and could be for something as simple as ridding the body of extra fluids that might have built up in the chest cavity. But anyone suffering with some form of heart disease should face the fact that they might require heart disease surgery one day.

Less Invasive Surgery for Heart Disease

It is not surprising that many people suffering from heart disease that requires surgery would rather opt for less invasive methods. Heart disease surgery is a major operation and the time needed for recuperation and rehabilitation is extensive. Less invasive techniques involve less pain and scarring as incisions are much smaller and recovery times are much quicker. This kind of heart disease surgery is becoming a routine alternative to the big heart operations.

Less invasive heart disease surgery does not require the entire chest cavity to be opened up since small incisions are used in this less complex form of operation. In addition, there is no need for vessel grafts from the arms or legs and no need for huge equipment like heart lung machines. This type of heart disease surgery also means a shorter stay in hospital and a lesser chance of complications for the patient.

No heart disease treatment should be embarked upon without first consulting your physician or health professional. You can discuss your family history regarding the incidences of heart disease among close family members since in some cases there is a genetic predisposition for heart disease. Your physician will be able to ascertain the incidence of any heart disease after conducting the necessary examinations and tests. If any issues are discovered, they will suggest corrective measures to be taken in the form of a treatment plan. In the meantime, eat healthily, exercise adequately and keep off all vices like smoking and excessive drinking.

Since it is becoming a common medical malady, it is important to be aware of the risk factors for coronary heart disease. There are a number of irregular conditions that affect the heart and the vessels supplying the heart with blood. Coronary heart disease is the most widespread kind of heart disease. It is also the most common cause of heart attacks.

Damage that occurs to the heart when the supply of blood is reduced is referred to as coronary heart disease. What normally happens is, deposits that are fatty in nature, build up within the lining of blood vessels whose job it is to supply blood to the heart muscles. This causes narrowing of the blood vessels and the resulting factor is a reduction in the blood supply to the heart muscles. This causes symptoms of pain known as angina.

Causes of Coronary Heart Disease

There are risk factors for coronary heart disease that are considered to be responsible for this disease. The biggest and most well known culprit is high cholesterol. Worldwide cholesterol levels in different populations vary quite dramatically. The Japanese population for instance, has much lower blood cholesterol levels and the rate of heart disease is lower. But in other populations that have similar incidences of blood cholesterol levels often have very varied heart disease rates.

Smoking tobacco is often quoted as one of the major risk factors for coronary heart disease. The smoker has a twice greater chance of developing heart disease than a nonsmoker. Studies indicate that after having given up smoking for five years, the risk factor of developing coronary heart disease lowers to that of a person who has never smoked.

There is a medically proven relationship between smoking tobacco products and coronary heart disease. While smoking is legal and remains a personal choice, it is a dangerous practice and it is necessary for individuals to know that smoking habits play a role in the causes of serious coronary heart disease. Many individuals may be in denial regarding the connection between smoking and coronary heart disease. This denial is often based upon a need to mollify criticism towards smoking and may also stem from those companies who profit from the sale of tobacco products.

Pop Cultural Influences

When watching old episodes of the TONIGHT SHOW with Johnny Carson, it is surprising to see that he casually smokes cigarettes during the greater part of the program. In the classic films made in the 1930’s and 40’s, many actors puff away on cigarettes during the duration of the film. In one of the most bizarre scenes in the 1973 film THE EXORCIST portrays doctors smoking whilst acting in the examination scene. Fans of classic motion pictures and television programs will notice that the number of people portrayed smoking while acting out their roles as very high by today’s standards. It is no wonder that the incidences of coronary heart disease were so high only a few decades ago.

At one time, smoking was so routinely shown in film and television productions worldwide that it acquired a foothold in pop culture. The result of this is that much of the public, close to 50%, was profoundly addicted to tobacco products. This addiction has not been without consequences as coronary heart disease and lung cancer incidences increased to correspond with the huge amount of individuals who enjoyed smoking cigarettes.

How Smoking Contributes To Coronary Heart Disease

Despite various attempts by stakeholders in the tobacco industry to deny the link between smoking tobacco products and coronary heart disease, medical technologists have confirmed the link between the two after numerous research programs over the last two decades. The continuous inhalation of smoke into the lungs over an extended period of time constricts the arteries and leads to coronary heart disease. This limits the blood flow throughout the arteries and the potential for a heart attack becomes very significant. This is a very dangerous situation to be in. Besides coronary heart disease, the smoking of tobacco products can cause various other ravaging effects on the human body. This can include breathing problems and the stunting of growth.

Diagnosis Of Coronary Heart Disease

The only sure way that coronary heart disease can be diagnosed is with a special procedure known as a coronary angiography. An x-ray sensitive dye is introduced to the blood flow to the heart. X-rays are then taken to examine how well the blood is flowing through the heart. This procedure is undertaken in conjunction with cardiac catherization when the patient is under sedation.

Prevention

The best possible way to prevent risk factors of coronary heart disease is to avoid them as much as possible. The most important thing to do is to maintain a healthy lifestyle. This includes eating healthily and ensuring the correct amount of daily physical activity. Only by living as healthily as possible will you be able to protect yourself from any of the risk factors of coronary heart disease.

Medicine and High Blood Pressure are interdependent. The kind of medicine to be taken for High Blood Pressure is not a single route to be followed. The dosage and the kind of medicine to be taken depend on the level of High Blood Pressure that a patient is suffering from. Initially, the medicine for patients with just a small rise above the normal blood pressure level is Diuretics. These High Blood Pressure Medicines work on the kidneys and flush out excess water and sodium from the body.

In the next higher stage, the High Blood Pressure Medicine consists of beta blockers. This medicine for High Blood Pressure reduces nerve impulses to the heart and blood vessels. Because of its functions, this High Blood Pressure Medicine is known as Beta Blocker.

If there is a narrowing of blood vessels, then the choice of High Blood Pressure Medicine is an Angio Tensin Converting Enzyme. This prevents the formation of the hormone angiotensinII and prevents the narrowing of blood vessels. Another course of medication for High Blood Pressure consists of Angiotensin Antagonists. These High Blood Pressure Medicines shield blood vessels from making angiotensin and widen blood vessels to subsequently lower blood pressure.

In the next category of High Blood Pressure Medicine, there are the Calcium Channel Blockers. This medicine for High Blood Pressure process keeps calcium from entering the muscle cells of the heart and the blood vessels. These channel blockers are in the category of alpha blockers and beta blockers. The alpha blockers reduce impulses to the blood vessels. This allows the blood to pass without restrictions through the blood vessels and thus helps the blood pressure to go down. The beta blockers used for high blood pressure medicine also slow down the heart beat.

In yet another category of medicine for high blood pressure, there are the Nervous System Inhibitors. They inhibit heart and relax blood vessels by controlling nerve impulses. Doctors also use Vasodilators as High Blood Pressure Medicication in the final stage. These medicines for High Blood Pressure directly open blood vessels and allow the blood pressure to be lowered. Combining this medication and High Blood Pressure with the right lifestyle can be very helpful.

High Blood Pressure or Hypertension is a disease caused by taking lots of tension. This happens when you keep on thinking continuously about a variety of matters. In High Blood Pressure, the blood circulation pressure increases in the walls of the blood arteries.

High Blood Pressure can be categorized according to the reason of this disease. The Hypertension caused without any other disease is a primary stage.. While the High Blood Pressure caused due to any kidney disease is categorized as the secondary stage. The primary stage of High Blood Pressure is more common than the secondary one.

The High Blood Pressure can have hazardous results on your health. This can cause various other serious problems such as heart attack, reduction in the blood pumping through heart, hypertrophy or the increase in the size of an organ resulting from the thickening or stretching of blood tissue, brain problems, artery disease and lots more.

The medicines given to a patient of High Blood Pressure are not given over the counter. Prior to the start of the High Blood Pressure Medication, the doctor and a patient hold a discussion. The actual count of the blood pressure, both systolic and diastolic is recorded to ascertain the type of High Blood Pressure Medication. The doctor also ascertains that the medicine prescribed is free from side effects for the patient’s stage of Hypertension.. Despite these steps, the patient has to be prepared for other side effects that might occur in some cases.

The most common type of High Blood Pressure Medicines such as the Diuretic Drugs, can cause skin rashes in some patients. Another High Blood Pressure Medication Side Effect is the passing of more urine, as the Hypertension Drugs are given to rid the body of excess salts.

The Beta Blockers that are given to patients, who are in Stage II of the Blood Pressure Scale, are administered drugs like Timolol and Solalol. This High Blood Pressure Medication has side effects that can slow down the heart and open the blood vessels. These cause tiredness, sleeping problems and even coooling of hands and feet.

The CCB Drugs like Lacidipine and Felodipine have other side effects. Patients taking these High Blood Pressure Medications complain of swollen ankles, bleeding gums, the passing of urine at night and even constipation. For patients who have other complications along with their blood pressure problem, the medicines are given in combination with drugs related to their specific problems. These patients are usually on Alpha Blockers like Trandolapril and Perindopril.

The most common High Blood Pressure Medication Side Effect is incontinence among women patients. Dizziness is also a common side effect. The doctor should inform the patient of the High Blood Pressure Medication about the possible side effects.. Thus the patient can begin his High Blood Pressure Medication with full knowledge of the side effects it might cause.

The treatment of High Blood Pressure or Hypertension is essential. The course of treatment can be decided by the patient in consultation with his doctor. Leaving a High Blood Pressure untreated can prove fatal. Therefore, treatment of High Blood Pressure cannot be neglected. Thus, medication for High Blood Pressure is essential to prevent further complications.

Not all cases of High Blood Pressure can be medicated in the same form. The High Blood Pressure types are classified into three major groups. High blood pressure medication is different for each of them. The drugs used for the medication of high blood pressure are generally divided into eight categories. These categories are arranged, according to the stage of Hypertension.

In Stage I type of Hypertension, there are no other major health problems. The Systolic Pressure is between 140 and 159, while the Diastolic Pressure is between 90 to 99.The medication prescribed for High Blood Pressure is a simple Diuretic. Along with a healthy lifestyle to go with the medication, the High Blood Pressure is kept well under control.

In Stage II type of Hypertension, the Systolic Pressure is 159 and above, while the Diastolic Pressure is 100 and above. For this category of patients, High Blood Pressure Medication, a Diuretic and an ACE Inhibitor is recommended. The two drug formula works faster and keeps blood pressure in control. In this category, other High Blood Pressure Medications include Beta Blockers, CCBs and Angiotensin II receptor blockers.

In the Stage III type of blood pressure, the patient usually has serious health problems along with High Blood Pressure. The common problems are diabetes, heart and kidney problems, previous stroke, coronary artery disease and even previous heart attack. Medication for High Blood Pressure in such cases is usually fixed after other forms of medications have been tried out. Usually, the doctor tries to put a different High Blood Pressure Medication Strategy, where he tries to reduce blood pressure to a fixed goal.
